Waythrough held a ‘Volunteer Celebration Day’ over the summer for people who support our services in various capacities in the south and south west regions.
The venue was the National Trust property Stourhead House in Wiltshire with its beautiful surroundings and botanical gardens. It was a great opportunity to come together, to network and to hear about all the amazing work being done by volunteers, including (but not limited to) creative workshops, gardening projects and peer support.
Even the weather played a helpful part in the day with an unseasonal downpour as we chatted indoors over lunch later giving way to clear blue skies, making everything glisten beautifully under the sun’s rays as we enjoyed an afternoon walk in the stunning gardens.
And steal like an artist….
We all get our inspiration from different places.
The trip to Stourhead inspired one of our volunteers, Nathan, who was rather taken with their litter bins.
Always keen to problem solve, Nathan knows a good litter bin when he sees one and took a photograph to use as a template for our Plume of Feathers community garden in Marlborough where a small group of us now work every Friday.
We made a pretty good copy of the original litter bin to accommodate the general litter and dog poop deposits made by visitors to our Marlborough garden.
They say the sincerest form of flattery is imitation – so we hope the National Trust accept this as a compliment, and that the good people of Marlborough will be further inspired to keep the garden tidy.
From the original and best…
…through attention to detail…
…to a snazzy knock-off version!
Re Create is a co-production initiative between people using Waythrough services, volunteers and staff.
Launched in January 2023, we hope you find a voice in this community! 😊
